The holidays are coming!

Happy December everyone!!
The holidays are just around the corner, and with the Thanksgiving weekend past, Mercie and Steve have been busy little elves decorating the Inn for the upcoming holidays. Each of the public spaces has a different theme- Winter in the Front twin parlors, Red & White in the Stanwood room, and Greenery in the Breakfast room. It is a fun time of year for us here, celebrating the season with friends and family, old and new. We welcome anyone of any background to come and pass part of your holidays here.

Local Tree Farms have opened their fields for cutting your own tree, a great Maine experience and one that is good for the environment. Did you know that tree farms carefully plant, cultivate and harvest their trees in conjunction with what is best for the environment? And you thought you were just getting a great smelling tree!! If a tree is too much to carry back, why not a wreath? They smell so great in your home, and will remind you of your fun weekend.

There are lots of craft shows, concerts, and other things to do in the area, so why not take a moment and grab that special some one and come escape for a few days.

Happy Holidays!!

November thaw?

It is the middle of November and the temps have been at or near 60 for the last few days... Feels almost like spring, but we know that winter is just around the corner. The stores are already gearing up for the holiday season around here, soon the decorations will be adorning windows and trees. How can it be that Thanksgiving is just two weeks away? We still have a few rooms open for the holiday week if you want to get away from it all, or be close to Freeport for the Black Friday shopping extravaganza.

The weather is perfect for hiking or exploring the coastal areas... Pack a picnic and see what you can see. With all the leaves down the views are quite different than during the summer. Drives where you couldn't see what was past the road now offer views of cozy coves and ocean vistas. Put on your hiking shoes and a fleece and we will show you several spots to see it all... and then come back to town for a warm dinner in a local restaurant within walking distance from the Inn.

Looking forward to seeing you and sharing our neck of the woods with you!

Ahh... October!

Well, It is an absolutely picture perfect fall day here in Brunswick, Maine. The local farmers are selling their wares across on the town green and sharing the fruits of their harvest with many locals and those visiting. It is sunny, maybe 60 degrees, the colors are beautiful, the pumpkins are out, corn stalks, gourds, potatoes, tomatoes, apples, pies, cheeses, flowers... Everything one can need for a bountiful meal! Are you hungry yet? I am!! And October is Maine Menu's Month. Local restaurants are showcasing meals made with local fruits, vegetables, seafood and meats. It is a great time to go out to eat in Maine!

This weekend is Parent's weekend at Bowdoin College, so the town is extra busy with all the visiting parents. We are happy to be full with many familiar faces along with some new ones. It is great to make these connections with our guests and continue through the four years that their students are here in town. There are athletic events, concerts, and other activities at the college, and plenty of visiting of parents and kids. If you are interested in reservations for next year, the phone line opens at noon on Sunday (10/8) for 2007 weekend reservations. Remember, we have only one phone line, so keep dialing if it is busy.

I am itching to get on my jeans and sweatshirt and head out into the beautiful weather... Maybe a hike at Bradbury Mountain, or Wolf's Neck Park... Both 15 minutes from here... Want to join me? Call and we will set up your reservation!!

Happy October!

Fall has arrived!!

Well, it is hard to believe that September is already her, schools have started, the gardens are full of Autumn's bounty, and the leaves are changing. Where did summer go? A flurry of activity was our summer with all you wonderful guests coming and going, getting married, visiting Brunswick and family, or just passing through. We enjoyed meeting you and hearing your stories. As for us, it is time to do some fall cleaning... the gardens are calling for a little weeding, there are some mums planted, and surely more to be planted...and get ready for the next season. But we like to call this time of year the "Mainer's Summer". Warm fall days and crisp nights make for beautiful exploring. The ocean waters are warmer than any other time of year cause the sun has warmed the earth and now you can bathe in the ocean with out totally loosing your breath. Jared- the littlest member of the family business went in just before labor day and loved it! Hard to believe he is one this month! Or try Kayaking. That way, if you roll over it won't be quite so bad. What better way to see the fall colors changing than from waters level?

The apple and pumpkin orchards are coming into their season and will be open for picking. We can get you directions to a patch to pick your own fall decor! Farmers Market has flowers in season now as well. You should see all the mums, sunflowers and colors that are available for you to take home. We would love to share this great season with you, so call and make plans for your mini after summer get-away!

Can't wait to hear from you!

August In Maine

Wow- it is absolutely a picture perfect summer day here in Brunswick, Maine. 75 to 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. A great day for the Lobster Boat Races in Harpswell. A summer tradition, all shapes and sizes of boats, captains young and old, compete for various titles just south of here. Oh the lucky folks who are sitting on the porches of several great seafood places and are able to see this sight first hand! Speaking of lobsters, they are in and sure are yummy! Have you had your Maine Lobster fix yet? Why not skip out of town for a night, make a reservation here at the Brunswick Bed & Breakfast and we will get you directions to several great lobster joints. A perfect get away before the fall sets in. And if you do come mid week you miss the crazy traffic of Maine Weekends! Recently, Maine was in several newspapers and travel printings... many "outta state-ahs" were raving about the lobster rolls, the rocky shores, the beautiful lighthouses, all which are easily visited from our front door.

It is nice to know we are appreciated for keeping things natural, simple and environmentally friendly. Many of you are fond visitors of the L.L.Bean Flagship store in Freeport, just 10 miles south of the Brunswick Bed & Breakfast... what is a trip to Maine without stopping by to see the indoor trout pond, the giant L.L.Bean Boot, or to shop in the middle of the night. But did you know that until the beginning of September there are concerts in the park between the main store and the hunt/fish store? Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 1:00 pm. All types of music, entertainers and demonstrations. Get some culture while you shop!!

So, it is still summer in Maine, and if you can't get up here before the end of August, September is wonderful too.. warm days, cool nights. NO BUGS!! But more about that in another installment. Until then get out there and enjoy the sun!! Happy August everyone.

Happy July

Well, July snuck up on us rather quickly, and here it is already the middle of summer. We have had some wonderful weather as well. Hot, but we will take it! Wednesday nights there is entertainment just out our front door, with local bands, barbershop quartets, jazz groups etc. performing each week. Fun to sit on the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the evenings entertainment! The Bowdoin International Music Festival is in full swing, and so is the Maine State Music Theatre. Or pack along your beach chair, and we will give you directions to Popham Beach State Park, or Reid State Park, two wonderful beaches close by. It is just a wonderful time to be in Maine, and we would love to share with you the little nooks and crannies that are something special to us.

With all the rain we have had over the last few months, Mercie's gardens are amazing! The last week of warmer weather has made the lilies pop, along with many other flowers. And the Pansies are still blooming. Farmers market has wonderful plants, flowers and goodies to taste, so come and check out our local produce.

We would love to make your stay in Maine extra special, so please call and let us help how ever you need!

Happy June

Hello everyone! It is the first day of June and they are predicting major thunderstorms for this afternoon. As long as the rains don't return like the beginning of May we should be ok. Luckily we were just north of the major damage zones, and only had to jump puddles for a few weeks. But man, you should see the grass and gardens! It was a banner Lilac year, the grasses are green and lush, and the gardens have filled in nicely.

Bowdoin College has had their Graduation ceremonies and the students are gone for the summer, leaving room for the various activities that ring through the campus. Maine State Music Theatre opens their summer season on June 7th with "South Pacific". Their summer presentation also includes "Beauty and the Beast", "Aida" and "The Full Monty". We are just two blocks from their theatre, so call us and we will take care of your lodging, dinner and theatre reservations. Also for the music lovers in us all, the Bowdoin International Music Festival kicks off at the end of June, a fun mix of professionals, students, classes and performances.

There is lots going on in Brunswick and the Mid Coast region this summer, so keep close tabs on our website, blog and newsletters. We will keep you informed, and hopefully entice you to take a little time for a quick getaway! Happy Summer!!
